The University of Northern Philippines, through its Student Welfare Services Office under the Office of Student Affairs and Services, spearheaded a meaningful wellness initiative for educators with the event “Thrive with balance: A chair yoga experience and mental health talk for Paulinian formators,” held on November 11, 2025 at St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur in Bantay.
Bringing together teachers and staff for an afternoon of reflection, relaxation, and holistic learning, the activity—organized in partnership with JCI Vigan City—highlighted the growing importance of physical and mental well-being among education professionals entrusted with shaping and mentoring students.
At the heart of the program was a keynote session led by Dr. Marifel Quemi Acena, head of the University’s Student Welfare Services Office. Delivering her anticipated talk titled “Well Within: Strengthening Minds, Inspiring Lives,” Dr. Acena offered a compelling examination of the evolving mental health landscape in Philippine workplaces, with particular focus on the unique pressures faced by educators. She presented evidence-informed perspectives on risk factors, protective behaviors, and the cultural influences that shape personal and organizational well-being.
Complementing her discussion was an invigorating chair yoga session facilitated by JCI Trainer Ms. Joana Cara Medina. Together, the two activities equipped participants with practical skills to reinforce mental resilience, manage stress, and cultivate a healthier, more supportive work environment. The event closed with participants affirming their commitment to carry forward concrete wellness initiatives—an encouraging indication of the community’s sustained pursuit of holistic well-being.
