The University of Northern Philippines (UNP) strengthened its academic partnership with Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) of Indonesia by joining the 5th International Conference on Mathematics and Learning Research (ICOMER 2025), held virtually via Zoom on September 24, 2025.
The collaboration builds on an existing Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions, as well as a formal agreement linking UNP’s Master of Arts in Mathematics Education (MAME) program under the College of Teacher Education and UMS’s Mathematics Education Department.
With the theme “Innovative Pathways in Mathematics and STEM Education: Bridging Theory, Practice, and Technology,” the conference gathered researchers and educators to share developments in teaching and learning. Dr. Mark Angelo Reotutar, MAME program head, served as one of the keynote speakers, while faculty members Dr. Joseph Taban, Dr. Rhosechelle Riboroso, Dr. Restituto Llagas Jr., and Dr. Loreen Cayabayab joined as peer reviewers.
Graduate students from MAME also presented their theses and research in the parallel sessions.
The participation is expected to open more opportunities for joint projects and faculty-student exchanges between UNP and UMS in the coming years.
