UNP upskills Internal Quality Auditors, reaffirms commitment to ISO 9001:2015 excellence

The University of Northern Philippines reinforced its commitment to a culture of quality and continuous improvement as the Quality Management Office (QMO), with the Training and Advocacy Team, conducted the Orientation/Reorientation of Internal Quality Auditors and Internal Audit Schedule Finalization on July 2, 2026 at Tadena Hall.

The activity aimed to strengthen the competencies of the University’s Internal Quality Auditors and reinforce the effective implementation and continual improvement of its ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS).

During the opening program, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Rolando Navarro, emphasized the indispensable role of the University’s Internal Quality Auditors in ensuring the effectiveness of the Quality Management System (QMS), highlighting their responsibility to objectively assess processes, ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2015 standards, and promote continual improvement in the institution.

Reinforcing the University’s pursuit of excellence, University President Erwin Cadorna declared, “It is our commitment to quality that defines our future,” emphasizing that quality assurance remains at the heart of UNP’s continued growth and institutional success. He reiterated the University’s unwavering commitment to cultivate a culture of excellence, highlighting the indispensable role of internal quality auditors in safeguarding standards, strengthening accountability, and driving continuous improvement. He noted that through their professionalism, integrity, and objective evaluation of institutional processes, internal auditors help ensure that the University consistently fulfills its mandate of providing quality education and responsive public service.

The training proper commenced with a comprehensive discussion on the fundamentals of internal auditing, providing participants with a solid understanding of the objectives, principles, and importance of quality audits within the framework of ISO 9001:2015.

The orientation featured a series of expert-led sessions designed to strengthen the competence of the University’s Internal Quality Auditors.

Dr. Precious Lyn Babida, Assistant Head of Admission Services, opened the discussions with an overview of the fundamentals of internal auditing, while Mr. Robison Tolio, Head of the Registrar’s Office, together with Ms. Mona Briones, provided an in-depth discussion on ISO clauses, quality management requirements, and proper documentation.

Dr. Luzviminda Relon, Director of the Instruction and Faculty Development Office, guided participants in preparing comprehensive and objective audit findings reports, whereas Ms. Antonina Lazaro, Officer-in-Charge of the Human Resource Management Office, demonstrated the proper accomplishment of ISO-related forms.

Capping the learning sessions, Ms. Regina Tobia, Head of Quality Assurance, discussed the audit program, audit planning, and other essential internal audit matters, equipping participants with the knowledge and practical tools necessary to effectively uphold the University’s quality management system.

Throughout the discussions, participants actively engaged with the resource speakers, seeking clarifications and exchanging insights that reinforced their understanding of audit processes and quality management requirements.

The program concluded with closing remarks delivered by Quality Management Office Director Dr. Eva Marie Avila, who emphasized the vital role of internal quality auditors in advancing the University’s quality assurance initiatives. She encouraged participants to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability as they carry out their responsibilities, emphasizing that their collective commitment to excellence is instrumental in driving continuous institutional improvement and ensuring the sustained delivery of quality education and public service.

Overall, the activity served as an essential capacity-building initiative that refreshed and enhanced the competencies of the members of the IQA. By providing updated knowledge on ISO 9001:2015 requirements, strengthening auditing and documentation practices, and filling out ISO related forms, the activity reinforced the University’s unwavering commitment to quality assurance, operational excellence, and the continuous enhancement of its institutional processes.
