UNP wraps up 2025 Management Review, driving continuous improvement and institutional growth

The University of Northern Philippines (UNP) opened its comprehensive Management Review on September 29, 2025, with the active participation of 72 units and colleges, process owners, and internal quality auditors. This annual undertaking, anchored on the principles of the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS), served as a vital platform to assess institutional performance, evaluate audit results, and strengthen the culture of continuous improvement across the university.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Rolando B. Navarro, Vice President for Academic Affairs, reminded everyone that the Management Review was not about fault-finding but should instead be regarded as an opportunity for the university to closely examine its processes and identify areas that could be enhanced for better performance. He emphasized that the review provided a constructive venue where collective efforts were harnessed to address challenges and maximize strengths. Likewise, University President Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna echoed this perspective by emphasizing the importance of looking into the positive side of the Management Review. He stressed that the activity was not merely a compliance requirement but a vital exercise in building a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and innovation that ultimately benefited students, faculty, and stakeholders of the university.

As the sessions progressed, a highlight of the review was the collaboration between process owners and internal quality auditors. Auditors presented their findings and valuable insights from the recently concluded Internal Quality Audit (IQA).

The management review covered several major areas including the results of the Internal Quality Audit, the monitoring of performance indicators, risk and opportunity assessments, customer and stakeholder feedback, resource management, and the development of improvement and action plans. The discussions allowed for a deeper analysis of conformities, nonconformities, and opportunities for improvement while assessing the adequacy and effectiveness of human, financial, and physical resources. The review also served as a platform for aligning corrective and preventive actions with the university’s long-term strategies, particularly in preparation for upcoming AACCUP accreditation, PQA/ISA readiness, and internationalization initiatives.

By the end of the five-day activity, several action points and directives were formulated. These included strengthening monitoring systems to ensure compliance with QMS standards, addressing nonconformities with timely corrective and preventive measures, enhancing professional development programs for faculty and staff, upgrading facilities and resources to support instruction and services, and institutionalizing stakeholder feedback mechanisms to further improve responsiveness.

The 2025 Management Review highlighted UNP’s strong commitment to quality assurance and continuous institutional growth. By bringing together process owners and internal quality auditors, the university ensured that both operational and evaluative perspectives were considered in decision-making. The insights and action plans that emerged from this activity served as a roadmap for innovation, compliance, and global competitiveness, ensuring that every member of the university community contributed to achieving shared goals.
