The University of Northern Philippines participated in the CommTech Nusantra 2025 Virtual Exploration of Indonesia: Ramadhan Edition held on February 10 to February 22, 2025. The event was an international program aimed to introduce various Indonesian cultures to the participating universities around the world. With a special theme called “Ngabuburit Time”, the participants embarked in an adventure to experience the atmosphere before breaking the fast during the month of Ramadhan.
Timing the virtual exploration during Ramadhan provides a particularly meaningful context. Participants gained insights into the spiritual practices and cultural significance of this important Islamic holy month, experiencing the depth and richness of Indonesian social and religious life. The event was filled with arts and cultural activities such as traditional music, dance, foods and many more.
Edwin Cerna, a faculty member of the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE), presented his creative ideas in the Virtual Project Exhibition where he highlighted the fasting customs, communal traditions and the urban Ramadhan culture of the provinces of Sumatra, and Bali, Indonesia.
Representatives from different colleges also took part in the virtual event. The participants from the University include: Lovie Japhet Lopez, Lady Jane Malagum, and Constantino Mendoza (College of Nursing); Gren Ivyn Guzman and Precious Beulah Gascon (College of Architecture); Edwin Cerna and George Philip Amano (CCJE); and Harry Paet, Mike Costales, and Gaylord Frando (College of Engineering)
