UNP’s MedTech Pinning: Commitment in Every Coat

The University of Northern Philippines College of Health Sciences held its 3rd Laboratory Coat and Pinning Ceremony on September 3, 2025, at the UNP Auditorium. The event, themed “Crossing the Threshold: Embracing the Call to Serve Through Medical Technology,” marked a symbolic milestone as students formally donned their laboratory coats and pins, signifying their transition into the professional phase of their training.

The day began with a Eucharistic Mass, followed by the vesting of coats and pins in the presence of university officials, faculty, parents, and guests. UNP President Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna, alongside academic leaders, participated in the ceremony which underscored the themes of commitment, responsibility, and service in the health sciences. The Guest of Honor and Speaker, Mr. Jhun-Jong S. Dameg, Clinical Instructor at Lorma Colleges and MLS Training Officer at Lorma Medical Center, delivered an inspiring message on dedication and integrity in the practice of Medical Technology.

The program was further enriched with symbolic offerings, touching musical performances including “Slipping Through My Fingers” and “Saranggola,” and the recitation of the Medical Technologists’ Prayer, highlighting both the academic rigor and emotional significance of the occasion. Students, parents, and mentors united in celebrating the sacrifices and aspirations fueling each future professional’s journey.

More than a rite of passage, the Laboratory Coat and Pinning Ceremony represents the students’ solemn pledge to uphold scientific excellence and ethical service in safeguarding health. For UNP and the community it serves, the event stands as a powerful reminder of the critical role medical technologists play in diagnostics, research, and patient care—fields that are essential to strengthening the nation’s health system.
