Upskilling Program equips Tourism professionals for inclusive, high-quality service

Tourism and hospitality professionals convened at Hotel Salcedo de Vigan on March 28, 2028 for a dynamic Personality Development and Gender Empowerment Training, strengthening their commitment to inclusive excellence and professional growth in the industry.

Serving as the training speaker, Prof. Sharmaine Raguindin highlighted the core dimensions of personality development essential in the hospitality industry, including self-confidence, effective communication, a positive attitude, and professional conduct. She emphasized that these attributes play a crucial role in enhancing service delivery, enabling workers to respond adeptly to diverse guest needs and navigate workplace challenges with professionalism and poise.

Prof. Raguindin further stressed the vital role of personality development in the hospitality industry, noting that employees who demonstrate confidence, respect, and professionalism contribute significantly to positive guest experiences. She emphasized that such traits not only enhance customer comfort and satisfaction but also foster harmonious relationships among co-workers, ultimately elevating the overall quality of service.

Another important topic discussed was gender stereotypes in the workplace. The participants were encouraged to understand that both men and women are equally capable of doing tasks. They were reminded to avoid judging others based on gender and instead treat everyone with fairness and respect.

She also shared four simple ways to promote equality and inclusivity in the workplace: showing respect for everyone, listening and communicating openly, providing equal growth opportunities, and supporting policies that protect all employees. These practices contribute to a safe and positive working environment.

Emphasizing the core of organizational success, the speaker said that “a respectful workplace is the foundation of a successful organization.” She stressed that promoting mutual respect among employees is vital in building a cohesive, productive, and high-performing team, reminding participants that respect remains a cornerstone of long-term success.

The program concluded with an inspiring message from Dr. Rubylene Jane Bactadan, Program Head of Tourism Management, who urged participants to sustain their commitment to continuous learning and self-improvement in an ever-evolving industry. Also present was Mr. Glenn Benzon, College Coordinator for Extension and Community Service, who expressed strong support for the initiative and its impact on community development.

The activity formed part of the College’s “Hospitality and Tourism Professionals Upskilling Extension Program,” an initiative designed to enhance not only the technical competencies of hospitality workers but also their confidence, professionalism, and workplace attitudes.

Through the training, participants gained greater self-assurance, strengthened their sense of respect in the workplace, and developed a deeper appreciation for equality and inclusivity. Equipped with these competencies, they are now better prepared to deliver quality service and foster meaningful, positive experiences for their guests.
