URDO-MRDC monitors Extension Project Beneficiaries

The University Research and Development Office (URDO), through its Mushroom Research and Development Center (MRDC), carried out a series of monitoring visits to project beneficiaries in Suyo, the Ilocos Sur Provincial Jail, and Camanggaan, Vigan City on October 8–9, 2025. Spearheaded by MRDC Chief Prof. Maritess Raboy, Coordinator Prof. Claudette Rabago, and Ms. Jessa Ramos, the activity aimed to evaluate the progress and sustainability of mushroom production initiatives implemented under the center’s community extension programs.

The monitoring visits provided an avenue to document outcomes, identify challenges, and gather essential feedback directly from the beneficiaries. These insights will serve as a basis for refining project strategies, strengthening capacity-building efforts, and promoting inclusive livelihood opportunities across the partner communities. Through such initiatives, the University reaffirms its commitment to research-driven community empowerment and sustainable local development.

The University of Northern Philippines (UNP) is set to take the spotlight at the upcoming Presentation Forum of Institutional Extension Projects organized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), where higher education institutions will showcase innovative and sustainable community programs that contribute to inclusive national development.

UNP will present its flagship initiative, the Science and Technology Community-Based Farm (STCBF) for Mushroom Production in Ilocos Sur, a pioneering extension project designed to strengthen local livelihoods through science-driven, sustainable farming practices.

The project exemplifies UNP’s enduring commitment to community empowerment, agricultural innovation, and rural development, reflecting the university’s dedication to applying research-based solutions that improve quality of life in partner communities. It also supports CHED’s advocacy for transformative and sustainable educational extension services, highlighting UNP’s leadership in fostering innovation and inclusive growth.
