The City of Vigan has recognized the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) for its outstanding support to breastfeeding mothers by awarding its breastfeeding room as the 2nd Most Functional Breastfeeding Room in the city. This accolade honors UNP’s commitment to providing a safe, comfortable, and well-equipped space dedicated to the needs of mothers and their children.
The award highlights UNP’s proactive approach in promoting maternal and child welfare within its campus community. The breastfeeding room, a joint initiative of the Medical-Dental Services Office and the Center for Gender and Development, is thoughtfully designed to ensure privacy, cleanliness, and accessibility, creating a nurturing environment for nursing mothers. Equipped with essential amenities, the facility underscores the university’s dedication to supporting work-life balance and encouraging breastfeeding as a vital health practice.
City officials presented the award during a ceremony held on September 2, 2025 at the Vigan Culture and Trade Center, praising UNP for setting a positive example among local institutions. The recognition reinforces the importance of accommodating breastfeeding needs in public and academic spaces, contributing to broader health and gender-responsive initiatives in Vigan City.
Through this recognition, UNP continues to demonstrate leadership in fostering inclusive and family-friendly environments that benefit not only individual mothers but also the wider community.
The Breastfeeding Room is located at the 2nd Floor of the UNP Hostel beside the University Clinic.
