SOCOTEC, the leader in testing, inspection, and certification when it comes to quality management system, is with the University of Northern Philippines today, November 20, until November 22 for the on-site assessment of the management system of the University.

The University’s top administrators respond to the auditors’ questions.

The three-day assessment opened with a program at the Tadena Hall. It was emphasized that the surveillance audit is important in verifying whether the University is still adhering to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) parameters and is maintaining information security as a high concern.

Further, according to the Quality Assurance Office (QAO), the surveillance audit helps the University get ready for its recertification audit.

Emphasizing SOCOTEC’s sterling reputation, Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna, University President, pointed out that the assessment is “is not just about compliance but also about fortifying the very foundations of our operations.”

“This audit is not merely an evaluation; it is an opportunity—an opportunity to refine our practices, to enhance our systems, and to align ourselves more closely with the benchmarks of excellence,” he added.

The audit, according to him, is a testament of the University’s commitment to accountability. Each document, each process, and each decision made within its walls will be examined with care and diligence.

“Your commitment to this process is commendable and speaks volumes about our collective dedication to the highest standards,” he encouraged the University community.

Mr. Jose Emmanuel Thomas Diel (lead auditor) and Mr. Arcel Andres (support auditor) will scrutinize the University’s processes through audit fieldwork.

The first day of assessment will include processes on research, extension, and production; the management of financial resources (which includes the Budget, Cashier, and Accounting Offices), and the management of goods and services (which includes the Bids and Awards Committee and the Property and Supply Offices).

In addition, the second day will focus on instruction, particularly at the College of Nursing and the College of Engineering.

Meanwhile, the third day is for management processes at the University Planning and Information System Management Office (UPISM), control of documented information, management of health services, internal quality review, and management review.

The three-day assessment will end with the presentation of audit findings.

The Quality Assurance Office (QAO), with Dr. Eva Marie C. Avila at the helm, spearheaded the event. With her is Dr. Necy Cesaria V. Romo, head of Academic Standards and ISO coordinator.
