Guidance and Counseling Services spearheads growth session for students

The Office of Students Affairs and Services (OSAS), together with the Guidance and Counseling Service & Information and Orientation Services, conducted the Growth Session for fourth and fifth-year students at the UNP gymnasium on March 19, 2024.

With the program titled “Bliss Route: Traveling a Thoughtful Journey to Mind Strength,” this event aims to provide mental health support and promote help-seeking behavior, particularly for students.

Dr. Mariano Paterno F. Avila, Director of OSAS, highlighted in his opening remarks that the session can provide students with the information necessary to make responsible and intelligent decisions in their personal, social, and academic pursuits. He also added that the University is in full support as it provides students with the necessary support in attending the career, course, and the students’ quest for excellence.

Furthermore, the topic was discussed by Mrs. Kristina Camille Pacris-Quitevis, the consulting psychologist of the University. She reiterated the importance of acknowledging one’s emotions and challenges and dealing with these through self-awareness and care.

The five-day event started on March 11, with first-year students participating. Ms. Monique R. Tubera, a guidance counselor at the University, served as the learning resource provider. Additionally, Mrs. Glenny Angelica Barrientos served as the speaker for the graduate students. The event concluded on March 19, 2024, with students from various year levels and colleges attending to acquire the necessary resources for managing any personal conflicts in their academic endeavors.

This activity aims to encourage students, especially when they are experiencing personal struggles, to have an open mind regarding topics like mental health and debunk common misconceptions about seeking help. It also seeks to develop an environment where seeking help is not an issue.
