UEO shares GeRL assessment tool orientation for gender-responsive local governance
The University Extension Office conducted an orientation on gender and development and Gender Responsive LGU (GeRL) Assessment Tool at the Municipality of Villaviciosa, Abra on April 30, 2024. This activity aimed to orient the members of the GAD Focal Point System (GFPS) on the basic concepts of GAD and the GeRL Assessment Tool.
Dr. Victoria R. Arce, the resource person, first gave a short review on GAD concepts before she discussed the said tool.
She was observed by the screening committee from the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) and some NGRP members via Zoom Meeting as part of the selection process for the certification of the National GAD Resource Program (NGRP) to which she is one of the shortlisted applicants.
The Gender-Responsive LGU (GeRL) Assessment Tool is designed to evaluate the gender responsiveness of local government units (LGUs). It assesses various aspects of governance, including policies, programs, services, and institutional mechanisms and determines how effectively they address gender issues and promote gender equality.
It also helps LGUs identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to enhance gender mainstreaming in their operations. It covers key areas such as leadership and governance, social services, economic development, and environment and natural resources management.
