UTAS and UNP forge agreement on collaboration
To pave the way for greater access to a broader pool of knowledge and expertise, facilitating the exchange of best practices and cutting-edge techniques in advancing innovations in research and education, another breakthrough agreement was stamped in the notable history of the University of Northern Philippines.
The second largest higher education institution in Oman, the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) etched a collaboration agreement with the University of Northern Philippines on July 29, 2024, at the UNP Tadena Hall.
The collaboration commenced with conducting a CISCO Networking Academy-Instructor Training for the CISCO Certified Network Associate curriculum and Introduction to IoT and Digital Transformation training. In this light, Dr. Edelyn A. Cadorna, the Director of the University Research and Development Office (URDO), introduced the CISCO Certified Network Associate Instructor Training-Workshop Trainers: Advancing Innovative Research and Quality Education Through Global Collaboration.
Prof. Rosanne S. Agup, Dean of the College of Communication and Information Technology, introduced the 56 participants in the partnership training, which began on July 21, 2024, and will conclude on August 4, 2024, as the start of the joint venture agreement between UNP and UTAS.
Dr. Irene Abigail S. Guerrero, OIC-Director of the International Affairs and External Linkages Office emphasized that collaborative approaches will not only benefit students but also ensure they are prepared to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world during her opening remarks.
Mr. Leopoldo Maglalang Jr., CISCO Academy Support Center / Instructor Training Center Lead Contact, UTAS IT Department, reiterated in his message that the collaboration will not only focus on the education aspect but also innovations and research. “Let’s focus on the one with the Smart Campus.” Leopoldo said in his message. He added, “We can go up and exchange with our students and your students; we will work on that.”
During his message, Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna conveyed his excitement for the initiative, emphasizing how it may greatly influence community development and education. “It is with great enthusiasm that we officially open our Global Community Outreach Program. This initiative represents not only a commitment to education but also a powerful opportunity to transform lives and communities through technology,” he said.
Dr. Cadorna concluded his speech by calling on all stakeholders to embrace the role of ICT in development and to strengthen partnerships for a brighter future. The Global Community Outreach Program is a testament to UNP’s dedication to advancing education and fostering a spirit of collaboration that transcends borders.
Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna and Mr. Leopoldo Maglalang Jr. led the Collaborative Agreement signing. The Vice Presidents, Deans, and members of the university’s Academic Councils witnessed this significant event, demonstrating the institution’s widespread support and dedication to the project.
Dr. Fatima F. Rocamora, Vice President of Research and Extension, gave closing remarks to the forging event. She thanked the new partner for providing trainings for the advancement of innovative research and high-quality education globally, and she acknowledged everyone involved in the endeavor.
The event was a collaborative effort of various offices and colleges within the university, initiated by the University Research and Development office, headed by Dr. Edelyn A. Cadorna. This launch signifies UNP’s commitment to creating inclusive environments that promote a global sense of community and collaboration.
