UNP joins ASEAN celebration, wins prizes

The University of Northern Philippines (UNP) made a strong display of talents at the 57th Founding Anniversary of ASEAN celebration, “Timpuyog: 2024 ASEAN Conference for Region I Higher Education Institutions,” held at the Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation in San Carlos City, Pangasinan on September 4-5, 2024. The event was spearheaded by the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office I.

Dr. Erwin Cadorna, UNP president, attended the event, together with Dr. Sally Jarin (officer-in-charge of the International Affairs and External Linkages Office) and Dr. Edelyn Cadorna (assistant director of the International Affairs and External Linkages Office).

During the event, President Cadorna presented UNP’s best practices in the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking, Times Higher Education (THE) rankings, and the World Universities Research Initiative (WURI). His insights emphasized the University’s commitment to sustainability and excellence in research and education.

The event provided a platform for cultural exchange and collaboration among the present universities and colleges in the region. UNP’s strong performance highlights its commitment to fostering international collaboration and promoting cultural diversity.

Also in the event were five students from the College of Tourism Management (CHTM), namely: Mark Ethel Cabaña, Kevin Nicoli Rabena, Fionah Mikaela Eugenio, Arlyn Guba, and Ryan Jay Fabro, alongside their coaches, Ms. Aubrey Belle Taiza and Mr. Victorino Bersamina II. They showcased their talents and creativity and highlighted the diverse cultures, traditions, and heritage of the Southeast Asian region.

UNP achieved success at the ASEAN culinary showdown and the most creative ASEAN booth competition, securing third place in both events. The indonesian booth prepared by UNP was in collaboration with the Philippine Science and Technology (PHILCST). The UNP teams received a cash prize of five thousand pesos. The team was assisted by Engr. Angelica Dolores, CHED Specialst.

The competitions were part of the 2024 ASEAN conference for Region I higher education institutions. This event celebrated ASEAN’s diverse cultures and aimed to foster collaboration among higher education institutions.
