Taking University of Northern Philippines expertise beyond borders, College of Teacher Education faculty lecturers Dr. Jamaica Garcia and Dr. Dave Fontejon brought their insights on technology-enhanced education to the international arena as resource speakers during the International Social Community Services Program hosted by Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia on August 12, 2026 via Zoom.
The international learning activity brought together teachers, university students, and senior high school students who engaged with emerging perspectives and practices on the effective and meaningful use of technology in education. The program provided participants with opportunities to deepen their understanding of how digital tools, platforms, and emerging technologies can enhance teaching and learning across educational settings.
Organized by the Mathematics Education and English Education Study Programs of the Faculty of Arts and Education, the program highlighted the importance of equipping educators and learners with relevant knowledge and skills to navigate an increasingly technology-driven educational landscape.
Dr. Garcia talked on the transformative potential of technology in language education in her presentation, “Technology Integration in Language Education.” She emphasized the meaningful and purposeful integration of digital tools into language teaching and learning, particularly in developing the four macro skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Beyond introducing technological tools, Dr. Garcia emphasized the importance of using them strategically to enrich instruction, strengthen learner participation, and support the development of essential language competencies.
Her presentation also addressed the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in education, stressing the need for both teachers and learners to engage with AI critically and responsibly. She emphasized that while AI offers new possibilities for teaching, learning, and academic support, its use should be guided by critical thinking, informed judgment, and sound educational practices.
Meanwhile, Dr. Dave Fontejon explored the expanding possibilities of “Digital Learning,” focusing on how digital platforms, technologies, and educational resources are reshaping access to knowledge and learning experiences. He discussed how digital learning environments can broaden opportunities for education, enhance learner engagement, and accommodate diverse learning needs through more flexible approaches.
Dr. Fontejon further emphasized the value of digital platforms in promoting collaborative learning, enabling learners to interact, share ideas, and participate in educational activities beyond traditional classroom settings. His discussion highlighted how the effective use of digital resources can contribute to a more accessible, engaging, flexible, and collaborative learning environment.
The participation of CTE lecturers in the program reflects the growing international engagement of UNP and its commitment to share expertise of its faculty with academic and educational communities outside the Philippines. It also strengthens the partnership between UNP and Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia by creating opportunities for academic exchange and professional learning.
