BAPS initiate women’s empowerment program in Caoayan
In celebration of Women’s Month, the BA Political Science Program of the University of Northern Philippines had their extension program on March 19, at Pantay Tamurong National High School, Caoayan Ilocos Sur. The activity, titled “Empowered Women, Empowered Communities: A Knowledge Sharing Initiative,” aimed to promote gender equality and amplify women’s voices through discussions, storytelling, and interactive activities.
Key speakers, Atty. Haysheryl Salamanca, Crizzle Paz, Mae Angelie Salvador-Garcia, and Dr. Ismael Rivera discussed RA 11313 (Safe Spaces Act), emphasizing the importance of protecting individuals from gender-based harassment, RA 9262, highlighting laws against violence against women and children, about women empowerment, inspiring participants to embrace leadership roles, and the role of women in driving societal change.
The activity served as a platform to educate young minds on gender equality and women’s empowerment, emphasizing their importance in governance and development.
