CCIT trains beneficiaries on the responsible use of social media

As part of college’s flagship extension program, CONNECT—”Creating Opportunities for Next-Gen Network, Education, Culture, and Technology”— the CCIT conducted a training session on responsible use of social media for the Gawad Kalinga community in San Sebastian, San Vicente, Ilocos Sur, on December 16, 2023.

 

Mr. Ade John Gestole, CCIT Faculty and Resource Speaker, emphasized the importance of responsible social media use during the training, focusing on his topic, Social Media Worries: Staying Safe Online as a Community.

 

“We must recognize the dangers of social media. Responsible practices are key to fostering digital citizenship, ensuring online safety, and promoting positive community engagement,” Gestole said.

 

The training was supported by a number of faculty members, including Ms. Rosanne Agup, Ms. Maribel Tacla, Dr. Honey Girl Avo, Mr. Mariano Romano Jr., Mr. Harold Costales, Dr. Fernando Perilla, Dr. Jennyfer Alasaas, Dr. Irvine Lamarca, Mr. Peter Rabanal, Mr. Joseph Padua, Ms. Caren Kate Cubon, Mr. Gian Paolo Martin Cabanas, Mr. Leo Angelou Baja, Mr. Joel Fabillaran, Mr. Paul Nikko Quilana, Mr. Flynn Castro, and Mr. Karl Max Agup.

 

The initiative demonstrates the CCIT’s dedication to equipping communities with the knowledge and skills needed to safely navigate the digital world. It also aligns with the university’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
