Quality assurance team, CHED officials assess nursing program

Members of the Regional Quality Assurance Team (RQAT) and education supervisors of the Commission on Higher Education visited the University of Northern Philippines on March 6, 2024 for an assessment of its Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program through the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP).

This evaluation was not only crucial for the approval of the program but also served as a testament to UNP’s commitment to providing accessible and quality nursing education.

The evaluation aimed to ensure UNP has the necessary resources and qualified faculty to effectively deliver this specialized nursing program.

It is essential to have a comprehensive evaluation process to assess the resources and faculty qualifications for any program. This helps ensure that students receive high-quality education and are adequately prepared for their future careers.

Regular evaluations help identify areas for improvement and drive continuous enhancement of the program.

The Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP) is a comprehensive educational program in the Philippines that allows individuals to earn their academic degree through alternative ways, such as work experience or prior learning assessment.

This program is designed to provide non-traditional students with the opportunity to have their knowledge and skills recognized and accredited towards obtaining a higher education degree.

ETEEAP is geared towards empowering adult learners by enabling them to complete their education and improve their career opportunities.

The ETEEAP is an innovative initiative that recognizes the value of relevant work and life experiences in the field of nursing, allowing individuals to pursue and acquire a BSN degree by demonstrating their knowledge and skills.

This evaluation was not only crucial for the approval of the program but also served as a testament to UNP’s commitment to providing accessible and quality nursing education.

The primary goal of this comprehensive evaluation was to ensure that UNP possesses the essential infrastructure, resources, and highly qualified faculty needed to successfully implement the BSN program through ETEEAP.

The evaluators meticulously examined various aspects of the proposed program, including curriculum content, teaching methodologies, faculty credentials, and the availability of learning materials and facilities that would support students’ academic and professional growth. This process underscores the dedication of both UNP and CHED to uphold the highest standards of excellence in nursing education.

By potentially adding this program to its offerings, UNP aims to generate significant interest among prospective students, especially those with valuable nursing experiences seeking formal academic recognition, thereby reinforcing its position as a leader in nursing education in the region.
