Nursing students prepared for crises through a simulation

The UNP College of Nursing (CN) conducted a simulation activity titled “Readiness Amidst Crisis: Empowering Nurses Towards a Disaster Resilient Society” on May 24, 2024, around the UNP campus.

This event aimed to enhance the preparedness and response capabilities of nurses in the face of disasters, both natural and man-made, focusing on their experiences and the importance of planning, training, and practice in disaster nursing courses.

Disaster preparedness involves a holistic approach that considers physical and social dimensions, emphasizing the significance of human behavior, training, education, and safety in healthcare settings. Nursing students had the opportunity to work alongside  other healthcare professionals, emergency responders, and public health officials, during the simulation.

The simulation activity likely involved realistic scenarios and practical skills training to educate nurses on evacuation procedures, crisis response strategies, and other essential skills for disaster management on communicative challenges that emerge in a community during a disaster, such as earthquake, fire, typhoon, and bombing attacks.

The activity involved practical skills training on search and rescue procedures, crisis response strategies, and other essential skills for disaster management.

The simulation focused on clear communication, cooperation between communities and organizations, and disaster preparedness, which are all critical factors in effective real-world disaster response.
