Student org gears up for a greener coastline

 

As part of the 59th founding anniversary of the University, the Young Vanguards of the Environment, an accredited student organization of the University under the BS in Environmental Science Program of the College of Arts and Sciences participated in the UNP Community Outreach Program inBrgy. San Sebastian, San Vicente, Ilocos Sur. 

The organization took another step toward a more sustainable future by conducting a coastal clean-up, distribution of flyers on solid waste management, and planting of coconut trees along the coastal area of the said barangay.

The activity aimed to restore and preserve the natural beauty of coastal ecosystems by removing litter and harmful pollutants, raising environmental awareness, and promoting sustainable practices within the community through flyer distribution on proper waste management. 

Additionally, the activity also aimed to support reforestation efforts, promote sustainability, help restore local biodiversity, improve air quality, and mitigate the effects of climate change. This aims to protect marine life, enhance public health, and foster a sense of environmental stewardship.

The organization thanked the local government unit of San Vicente headed by Hon. Mayor Jonan D. Tabanda, Sangguniang Bayan Member Dra. Paula Cynthia Valencia (chair of the Committee on Health, Sanitation, and Environment), MDRRMC, San Vicente Coast Guard, PNP San Vicente, and Brgy. Capt. Reynaldo Riberal, together with the barangay officials of San Sebastian, San Vicente, Ilocos Sur for making this activity possible.
