DLH holds talk on ending violence against women

In line with the implementation of the 18-day campaign to end violence against women (VAW), the Department of Languages and Humanities of the College of Arts and Sciences conducted a seminar entitled “Safe Space” in collaboration with Balaleng Elementary School, Bantay, Ilocos Sur on December 4, 2024.

With the theme “VAW Bigyang Wakas, Ngayon na ang Oras,” the program had the teachers at the said school as the audience.

The activity aimed to uplift the morale of women in the society and enhance awareness of the rights of women with the goal of leading to a peaceful and productive community. Further, it sought to help foster a culture of respect, inspire others to address gender-based sexual harassment, and create a safer space for everyone.

The department was welcomed by Dr. Emelita R. Arizabal (head teacher), who oriented the teachers about the purpose of the seminar.

Atty. Mirela A. Versoza of the College of Law served as the lecturer.

Five faculty members of the Department of Languages and Humanities served as the program implementers. The activity was a form of support for the anti-VAW efforts of the government and the immediate community, not only for the program implementers and the teachers of Balaleng Elementary School, but to proactively ensure that the workplace is VAW-free and a safe space for all.

The activity was organized by Dr. Esperanza Marites Mariñas and Dr. Imelda Q. Nesperos with the program implementers: Prof. Charito R. Alconis and Ms. Ruthie Charmaine A. Tubon, under the leadership of Prof. Allen De Vera (department head).
