In a landmark show of solidarity and inclusivity, the University of Northern Philippines proudly took part in the Ilocos Sur Provincial Pride Parade on June 26, 2026, marking its inaugural participation in the annual celebration and reaffirming its commitment to promote equality, respect, and acceptance for all.
The parade was a vibrant display of advocacy, solidarity, and hope, bringing together individuals and organizations committed to promoting respect for human dignity and equal opportunities for all. UNP delegates, composed of personnel from the Center for Gender and Development (CGAD) and the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS), donned colorful attire and proudly carried messages advocating equality, respect, and non-discrimination as they marched through the streets of Vigan City.
At the forefront of the University’s inaugural participation in the Ilocos Sur Provincial Pride Parade were Atty. Katrynn Louise Eder, Director of the CGAD; Dr. Mariano Paterno Avila, Director of OSAS; Dr. Marifel Q. Acena, Head of the Student Welfare Services Office; Dr. Rodel Rosario, Assistant Head of the Guidance and Counselling Services; and Dr. Precious Babida, Assistant Head of the Admissions Office. Their collective leadership exemplified the University’s commitment in translating its advocacy for gender equality, diversity, and inclusion into meaningful action, affirming UNP’s role as a champion of human dignity, respect, and equal opportunities for all.
As the University continues to strengthen its Gender and Development initiatives, this milestone reflects its sustained commitment to the principle of equality and diversity, as well as in building meaningful partnerships that advance these shared values. Beyond being a celebration, Pride serves as an important platform in affirming the inherent dignity and rights of every person and for raising awareness of various gender and social rights issues especially on the elimination of discrimination, prejudice, and social exclusion.
With gender and development mainstreaming as one of its strategic development goals, the University of Northern Philippines continues to advance initiatives that promote equality, diversity, and inclusion. The University stands with individuals, organizations, and communities working toward a just, humane, and inclusive society where the dignity and rights of every person are upheld.
