The University of Northern Philippines took a significant step toward strengthening professional development and lifelong learning as it convened an Orientation on Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Provider Accreditation on June 29, 2026 at Tadena Hall through the Instruction and Faculty Development Office.
The initiative aims to operationalize the mandates of RA 10912 and Professional Regulation Commission Memorandum Circular No. 07, Series of 2017, to encourage colleges to become accredited CPD providers. Consequently, these colleges can help licensed faculty members more easily fulfill their ongoing professional obligations and expand the university’s capacity to offer accessible professional development programs for licensed professionals.
The orientation gathered representatives from the Colleges of Medicine, Teacher Education, Arts and Sciences, Business Administration and Accountancy, Communication and Information Technology, Engineering, Criminal Justice Education, Social Work, and Fine Arts and Design.
In her rationale, IFDO Director Dr. Luzviminda Relon emphasized that becoming a CPD provider would enable the university to save time and resources for faculty members while providing convenient access to CPD units required for Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) license renewal.
University President Dr. Erwin Cadorna urged the university’s colleges to actively pursue Continuing Professional Development provider accreditation and spearhead the conduct of CPD-accredited seminars and training programs. He emphasized that securing accredited provider status would not only expand the University’s capacity to deliver high-quality professional development opportunities but also reinforce its commitment to academic excellence, lifelong learning, and responsive public service for professionals in various disciplines.
To provide practical guidance, Dr. Dominetta Gonzalo, the Assistant Dean of the College of Medicine, the University’s first CPD provider, shared the specific application mechanics and challenges they encountered in their journey as a provider.
Additionally, Dr. Juvie Lynne Almachar, Head of CPD, conducted an “Echo Session” regarding the Revised PRC-CPD Guidelines (Resolution No. 2165, s. 2026) to highlight new and different ways for professionals to earn CPD units.
Bringing the orientation to a close, Raymart Tablante, in charge of training and development, delivered the closing message on behalf of Human Resource Management Office Head Mrs. Antonina Lazaro. He challenged participants to take an active role in strengthening the University’s culture of continuous learning by championing Continuing Professional Development-accredited programs, stressing that professional growth and lifelong learning are essential to sustaining excellence in service, instruction, research, and community engagement.
