Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna, UNP President, together with Dr. Edelyn A. Cadorna, attended the Sustainability, Innovation, Leadership, Linkages, Access, and Growth (SILLAG–Region I) Launching: A Startup Consortium and the Ceremonial Signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on December 6, 2023 at Purok Marcela Resort, Lingayen, Pangasinan.
The President signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), delineating the terms and conditions for the said partnerships. Other partners in this thrust led by the Department of Science and Technology are the Mariano Marcos State University, Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, Northwestern University, Saint Louis College, Universidad de Dagupan, and Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College. Moreover, other partners are several government and private agencies.

This collaborative effort reflects the shared dedication among agencies to foster an environment where innovation can thrive, and startups can prosper.
The consortium aims to support startups that are committed to creating sustainable solutions and practices, as well as to foster creativity and new ideas among startups to drive innovation and technological advancement in the region.
The program was graced by the opening remarks of Dr. Teresita A. Tabaog (Regional Director, DOST I), represented by Engr. Arnold C. Santos (Pangasinan Provincial Director/Project Leader, DOST I).
Dr. Tabaog introduced SILLAG R1 as a visionary step forward to support start-ups dedicated to creating sustainable solutions and practices. She stressed in her message the importance of collaboration, and the desire to empower start-ups, enabling them to overcome challenges.
The consortium’s operations are holistic, Dr. Tabaog added. “SILLAG Region I will open the doors to a plethora of resources, expertise, and networks, creating an ecosystem that nurtures startups from their inception to scalability.”
“Recognizing the importance of cooperation, growth, and linkages, it becomes evident that embracing these concepts is not just an option but a necessity,” said UNP President Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna in his commitment message. He also mentioned that by working together, the institutions can overcome obstacles, tap into their collective potential, and build a more inclusive and thriving environment.
The purpose of the event is to demonstrate startups and how the DOST works with academic institutions, national agencies, and the private sector to support by giving access to networks and resources, aiding in the development of strong leadership, and assisting in expanding and succeeding.
Dr. Cadorna pledges UNP’s full support to the SILLAG Region I.
