The University of Northern Philippines reaffirmed its strong commitment to community partnership and youth development by granting the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Vigan City the free use of the University Oval and Gymnasium for the Region I Athletic Association (RIAA) Intensive Training 2024.
The request, made through a formal letter dated February 13, 2024, was initiated by Dr. Vilma D. Eda, CESO V, Schools Division Superintendent of Vigan City. It sought the use of UNP’s premier sports facilities to provide a suitable training ground for student-athletes who would represent Vigan City in the RIAA Meet. The training officially ran from February 13 to March 23, 2024, with sessions scheduled from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM on weekdays; and 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Saturdays, ensuring that student-athletes received ample time for conditioning and skill enhancement.
Upon the approval of UNP President Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna, the university graciously opened its facilities without any rental fee, a clear demonstration of UNP’s spirit of public service and dedication to supporting local education initiatives. This gesture underscored UNP’s belief that access to quality facilities should not be a privilege limited by resources, but a shared opportunity to nurture potential and talent among the youth.
The shared facilities proved highly beneficial to the athletes, providing them with a safe, accessible, and well-maintained environment that significantly enhanced their preparation for the regional athletic competition. The training not only improved their athletic performance but also strengthened camaraderie, discipline, and sportsmanship, qualities that are essential both in sports and in life.
SDO Vigan City expressed its gratitude to UNP for the partnership, emphasizing how the University’s support served as a vital boost to the athletes’ morale and readiness. This meaningful partnership between UNP and SDO Vigan City exemplifies the power of shared resources and collective effort in advancing education, physical fitness, and youth empowerment. It reflects UNP’s continuing role as a university for the people, a steadfast partner of government agencies and the community in promoting holistic development and excellence across generations.
