BSEd program conducts GAD workshop

The College of Teacher Education, particularly its Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) program, conducted a workshop and capacity building on gender and development (GAD) for teachers and non-teaching staff at Puro National High School, Magsingal, Ilocos Sur on November 26, 2024.

A short program was prepared by the said school before the main highlight of the activity.

Mr. Aaron Noel F. Taloza, BSEd faculty, talked about the topic “Addressing Sexism in the Classroom.”

An initial activity was asked for the participants to recall and enumerate at least five activities on sexism which they have done unwittingly in their classes.

The types of sexism and the Safe Spaces Act were also discussed. The PNHS teachers were participative in the said discussions.

Moreover, Dr. Victoria R. Arce elaborated on gender issues in education, particularly on gender stereotyping, marginalization, subordination, multiple burdens, and violence against women. She also differentiated sex from gender roles with examples.

Other activities were a fast talk on GAD and viewing of the film “An Impossible Dream?” The activity concluded with the awarding of certificates to the speakers and the closing remarks of one of the PNHS teachers.
