DMNS renews partnership with VNHSE, strengthens community commitment
The University of Northern Philippines’ Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences is taking a bold step toward a long-term community engagement by renewing its Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Vigan National High School East (VNHSE) on March 10, 2025. This strategic partnership demonstrates UNP’s unwavering commitment to advancing quality education and collaborative efforts. The university’s initiative not only improves educational opportunities but also strengthens community ties for a more sustainable future.
The renewed agreement aimed to strengthen further the ongoing collaboration between DMNS and VNHSE, an adapted community of the university. Over the years, DMNS has identified key educational needs and priorities among the students, teachers, staff, and parents of VNHSE. In response, the department committed to extending its services through its flagship program, “Math-tuto ka sa Natural na Siyensiya.” The program encompassed key components, including the Numeracy and Literacy Program, which aimed to enhance foundational skills in mathematics and science to improve student learning outcomes; the Teacher Training Program, which provided professional development and capacity-building opportunities for educators; and the Research Dissemination Program, which focused on sharing relevant research findings to enhance educational strategies and support community development.
The renewal of the MoA was formally signed by key officials: Ms. Anita R. Presto, VNHSE Principal, Ms. Marites Iniba, Master Teacher II, Mr. Segundino Anicas Jr., SGC Co-Chairperson, Ms. Junette Ponce, SPTA President, Dr. Lloyd Mata, Director of the University Extension Office (UEO), Dr. Remedios Navarro, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and Dr. Restituto Llagas Jr., Department Head of DMNS. The signing was witnessed by teachers, students, and staff of VNHSE, as well as faculty members of DMNS.
This agreement highlighted DMNS and VNHSE’s shared vision of promoting quality education, community empowerment, and sustainable development. Through this partnership, both institutions aimed to continue fostering meaningful academic collaborations and outreach initiatives that could benefit the schools and the community.
