The University of Northern Philippines–College of Architecture and Built Environment (CArBE) reinforced its commitment to academic excellence by convening faculty members for RE-ALIGN: A Workshop on Syllabus Development and Integration for Quality Management Excellence on July 17 and 20, 2026, at the Architecture Building.
The two-day initiative focused on strengthening curriculum quality by refining and aligning course syllabi with Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) principles and the University’s quality management framework, ensuring that instruction remains relevant, outcomes-driven, and responsive to evolving educational standards.
The workshop featured expert-led learning sessions that equipped faculty members with practical strategies for developing high-quality, outcomes-based course syllabi. Dr. Luzviminda Relon, Director of the Instruction and Faculty Development Office, together with Mr. Lester Aaron, Head of Curriculum and Instructional Materials Development, Dr. Juvie Lynne Almachar, Head of Continuing Professional Development, and Dr. Victoria Arce, a National GAD Resource Pool Member, shared insights on curriculum enhancement, instructional design, quality assurance, and gender-responsive education.
Complementing the lectures, faculty members participated in collaborative syllabus write-shops, peer review sessions, and presentations of their revised course syllabi, promoting a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and academic excellence.
The workshop also highlighted presentations by Ar. Julius Artates and Ar. Ludivina Lozano, who provided comprehensive overviews of the curriculum structures and developmental pathways of the Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Bachelor of Science in Environmental Planning programs. Their discussions emphasized the alignment of course sequencing, program outcomes, and curriculum integration, enabling faculty members to better appreciate how each course contributes to the attainment of graduate competencies. The sessions reinforced the College’s commitment to delivering a coherent, outcomes-based curriculum that upholds academic quality and prepares students for the evolving demands of the architecture and environmental planning professions.
In her message, OIC Dean Ar. Mon-Cres Toje emphasized the significance of the RE-ALIGN workshop in advancing the instructional excellence of the college’s faculty. She acknowledged that many professionals enter the academe as “teachers by accident,” bringing with them extensive industry expertise while continuously refining their pedagogical skills. She highlighted that the initiative serves as a vital platform for faculty members to strengthen their teaching competencies, design more outcomes-driven and learner-centered courses, and ultimately create more meaningful and impactful learning experiences for students.
Through RE-ALIGN, CArBE reaffirmed its commitment to continuous curriculum enhancement and instructional excellence, ensuring that its academic programs remain responsive, learner-centered, and aligned with the University’s quality management goals.
