Haraya comes alive: UNP participates in vibrant celebration
The University of Northern Philippines (UNP) participated in the “Fiesta Haraya: Rimat ti Amianan” celebration on November 5, 2024, held at the Candon City Arena in Ilocos Sur. This vibrant event showcased a blend of art, talent, innovation, and entrepreneurship, reflecting the theme of “Haraya,” which translates to imagination. Participants included representatives from La Union, Pangasinan, Ilocos Sur, and Ilocos Norte.
UNP was represented by Dr. Fatima Rocamora, Vice President for Research and Extension, alongside with Prof. May Evelia Ruadap, Extension Coordinator; the UIO Team comprised Mr. Joel Tipon, Mr. Ade John Gestole, Ms. Rocelle Villanueva, Mr. Noelle Jnyx Tacas, and Mr. Al Palomas; and Mr. Delmar Jacob Torrano from the College of Fine Arts and Design attended as an exhibitor.
The event commenced with welcome remarks from Hon. Eric Singson, Mayor of Candon City, who emphasized the significance of creative industries in Region I. He highlighted the event’s role in showcasing local tourism, arts, delicacies, and skills enhancement seminars.
Dr. Merlie Membrere, Assistant Director of DTI-RI, provided an overview of the challenges faced by creative industries, including competition and skills gaps. She noted that the enhancement seminars offered during the event could assist entrepreneurs and exhibitors in overcoming these obstacles.
Atty. Raymond Panhon, Regional Director of DTI-RI, delivered an inspirational message that underscored the importance of leveraging history and vision to strengthen local talents in the global market. Governor Jeremiah Singson echoed this sentiment by encouraging collaboration within the community to uplift and redefine it through creative industries while preserving cultural heritage.
In the afternoon session, the UNP UIO Team participated in the Capacity Building Session for Photographers, led by resource speaker Mr. Khalil Verzosa. He focused on key elements of photography composition, film making and provided tips for creating engaging storyboards.
This celebration not only highlighted local creativity but also fostered a strong sense of community engagement among participants from various provinces in the region.
