The University of Northern Philippines (UNP) secured the first and the second positions in the 27th Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) Regional Eliminations held in San Fernando City, La Union on November 10, 2023.
Kenji V. Idica and Russel Jay Fuentesfina, first-year BS Physics students, emerged as the regional champion and second placer, respectively, during the highly competitive event. They were coached by Mr. Randolf M. Agup, a faculty member of the College of Arts and Sciences.
The Regional Eliminations featured a total of 12 contestants from various colleges and universities across the four provinces of Region I.
The Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ), an annual competition organized by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and the Philippine Statistical Association Inc. (PSAI), aims to foster interest and awareness in statistics among students.
It serves as a platform for students to showcase their statistical knowledge and skills. It also aims to promote interest and awareness in the field of statistics and encourages the pursuit of excellence among the country’s future statisticians.
This dual victory not only brings honor to the individual students but also highlights UNP’s commitment to academic excellence.
Idica will represent Region I in the upcoming National Finals of the PSQ, further solidifying UNP’s presence on the national stage.
The University community celebrates this remarkable achievement, recognizing the significance of such success in fostering a culture of excellence.
“As UNP continues to shape future leaders in statistics, the PSQ serves as a vital platform, showcasing the University’s dedication to producing top-tier talents in the field,” Mr. Agup, the coach, remarked.
The focus now shifts to the National Finals where UNP aims to maintain its winning streak.
