UNESCO heritage project closed with pacts for future activities
On August 12, 2024, the Historic City of Vigan proudly hosted the closing ceremony of the UNESCO HEF Project at Tadena Hall, University of Northern Philippines.
Dr. Cheek S. Fadriquela, Chair and President of ICOMOS PH, opened the affair.
Ar. Christian Nico Pilotin, the City Architect of Vigan, delivered the keynote speech, representing Vigan City Mayor Jose “Bonito” Singson, followed by remarks from Ms. Moe Chiba (Chief of Culture at UNESCO Jakarta), Mr. Victorino “Ino” Mapa Manalo (Chair of NCCA), and Hon. Ivan Anthony S. Henares (Secretary General of UNACOM).
Ar. Kenneth Javier Tua, Vice President of ICOMOS PH and Country Project Director, presented the project’s achievements, and Dr. Fatima Nicetas R. Alonzo closed the ceremony. Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna, President of the University of Northern Philippines, delivered the final acceptance speech.
The event also celebrated partnerships with UNP and ICOMOS PH through MOU signings and recognized the invaluable contributions of supporters.
The MoU between UNP and HKU earlier signed in June 2024 was also acknowledged during the program.
The official student leaders of the UNP College of Architecture, Atelier Council (CAAC), and the student publication The Facade played key roles in facilitating the event alongside ICOMOS members.
