DLH, DSSP collab for values seminar

The Department of Languages and Humanities of the College of Arts and Sciences through its DLH SSS (Saluad, Saririt, ken Saranay) Extension Program, in collaboration with the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy, successfully conducted a seminar focused on values reorientation in Quimmarayan Elementary School, Quimmarayan, Sto. Domingo, and Capangdanan Elementary School, Bantay, Ilocos Sur.

This initiative was organized in response to a growing need for community members to realign their values with the collective interests of the village, as part of a broader effort to enhance community spirit and support sustainable development.

Prof. Bernadeth F. Canoy, the organizer and initiator of the activity, conveyed the rationale for the activity. She stressed that the activity was designed to address issues such as conflict resolution, ethics, and civic responsibility, which are essential in building a cohesive, supportive community.

Through a series of discussions, workshops, and reflective exercises, the activity aimed to engage participants in thinking critically about their values and how these influence both their personal lives and their relationships with others.

Atty. Christian Casildo, faculty member of DSSP, introduced the concept of nakem. He emphasized the importance of core values in building strong relationships and a thriving community.

Dr. Daren Dawn Avila, the second lecturer, stressed the positive impact of the event on the community, highlighting the importance of shared values in fostering social cohesion.

The training session was attended by teachers, barangay officials, and parents.

This training concluded by the organizer that the extension activity successfully met its objectives of encouraging self-reflection and promoting positive values in the community. The feedback indicated that participants were eager to implement the values discussed during the event and shared a strong desire to see similar activities in the future.

The activity was initiated and organized by Prof. Bernadeth F. Canoy and led by Prof. Allen Magdaleno De Vera, the department head.
