Theme: Beating the Challenges of Borderless Education through Outcomes-based Education and Effective Student Governance

Background 

In facing the Economic Community at the south east Asian (ASEAN) countries that has implemented in the year 2015, as parts of their commitment the ASEAN economic community (AEC) has to play roles to run the programs in various fields.  Universities as members of the AEC have to identify their strengths and find out their best resources to support the success of these programs for the better of the ASEAN community.

Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), Bandung, West Java, the Republic of Indonesia and the University of Northern Philippines (UNP), Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, the Philippines as members of the ASEAN community have found out the importance of doing some academic collaboration in order to prepare the implementation of the AEC through organizing a joint international roundtable conference to find out the best practices on teacher education, economics and business, and campus governance.

Through this joint conference, both universities can share some views on the relevant topics to come up with the same visions to manage, organize and develop the ASEAN community through implementing some of the identified AES programs.

This joint conference is also one of the proofs of both universities in the two countries, Indonesia and the Philippines, to continuously implement the internationalization of the universities through taking roles in identifying the best practices on various fields of expertise in both universities and developing and strengthening academic collaboration to improve and achieve high quality standard of their education to lead the ASEAN community.

Aims of the Conference 

This international roundtable conference is aimed at:

  1. sharing some views on the relevant topics, i.e. teacher education, economics and management, and the best practices on the university governance;
  2. developing the network among academic personnel and practitioners of teacher education, economics and management, and the best practices of students€™ governance; and
  3. strengthening the academic collaboration between the two universities in various fields of expertise.

Theme and Sub-themes

The theme of this international roundtable conference is Beating the Challenges of Borderless Education through Outcomes-Based Education and Effective Student Governance. This main theme is broken down into three sub-themes:

  1. Teacher education;
  2. Economics and management;
  3. Campus governance.

Presenters & Participants

Presenters are invited by the committee selected based on the fields of expertise relevant to the theme and topics of the conference. The papers are written and presented in English.  The participants of the conference are mainly from two universities, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), Bandung, West Java, the Republic of Indonesia and University of Northern Philippine (UNP), Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, the Philippines.  The conference also welcomes presenters and participants from other universities.

Presentation for Panel Sessions

Due to tough schedule for the presentation in the panel sessions, each paper in the panel sessions is allocated 10 minutes to present the paper.  After all participants present their papers, the rest of the times is allocated for questions and answer sessions.
