UNP-SC launches gender neutral uniform

The University of Northern Philippines Student Council (UNP-SC) has taken a significant step towards promoting inclusivity and gender equality by launching a gender-neutral uniform policy on May 27, 2024. This initiative is part of a broader movement to create a more equitable educational environment, where students can feel comfortable and express themselves without fear of discrimination or harassment.

The UNP-SC’s move is in line with the “Pants for Her Act” proposed by Senator Raffy Tulfo, which seeks to allow female students to wear trousers or pants as part of their school uniform. This bill aims to create a more inclusive and equitable educational environment, where students can choose what they feel most comfortable wearing, without being restricted by traditional gender-based uniform policies.

Moreover, the UNP-SC’s gender-neutral uniform policy is a response to the growing call for inclusivity and equality in educational institutions. By providing students with the option to wear gender-neutral attire, the council aims to promote a culture of acceptance and respect for all individuals, regardless of their gender identity or expression.

With the UNP Student Council was the Perlas ti Amianan, a student organization which envisions to be “a beacon of empowerment and advocacy with our University, dedicated to uplifting and supporting all students, with a special focus on empowering LGBTQIA+ individuals.”

The student organization also seeks to “create a campus environment where every student is respected and empowered to embrace their true selves without fear of discrimination or violence.”
