UNP OU faculty attend training-workshop on course material development

The University of Northern Philippines continue to uphold the delivery of quality education by providing relevant trainings for its faculty members. The UNP OU spearheaded the conduct of Training-Workshop on Course Material Development at Tadena Hall on May 7, 2024.

This training proves the commitment of the administration and the faculty members in the pursuit of quality distance learning.

UNP has invited professors from UP Open University to serve as resource speakers, namely: Dr. Melinda D. Bandalaria, Chancellor of the UP Open University (UPOU), and Dr. Myra C. Almodiel, Director of the UPOU Office of Public Affairs.

Dr. Dolores R. Bersamina, Dean of the UNP Open University, opened the activity. She stated: “Promoting continuous learning and harnessing the profound responsibility to empower students in their educational journey through distance learning, this training could help us in creating engaging and effective learning materials.”

This training workshop could help the faculty members enhance the contents of instructional materials being distributed to distant learners.

As the materials were tailored to the student needs, this training could give the faculty new approaches and learning designs, as Dr. Luzviminda P. Relon, Director of the Instruction and Faculty Development Office, discussed the rationale.

“The OU initiated this training to maintain relative impact to quality education by promoting inclusive, accessible, and effective instructional materials for diverse learners,” she asserted.

“We should make sure that the materials we give to our students are of good quality, and the concepts and theories are aligned to the goals of the academe,” VP Albert R. Tejero encouraged the participants. He stressed the importance of elevating teaching strategies even in distant learning mode.

“This training shows our commitment to continual growth. As we elevate teaching practices, this transformative training could serve as a cornerstone for the success of our students,” Dr. Rolando B. Navarro emphasized in his message. VP Navarro also highlighted the relevance of the training and said that he looks forward to the creation of engaging materials that are inclusive, relevant, and effective.

This training-workshop aids not only in the creation of materials, but also promotes more opportunities, networking, and collaboration, as well as strengthens instruction, research, and extension services in distance education.
