DLH continues literacy program at Balaleng ES
The Department of Languages and Humanities conducted the Reading Literacy Program: Sirib nga Iruknoy Dagiti Letra Kadagiti Agtutubo Session 2 at Balaleng Elementary School Bantay, Ilocos Sur on May 10, 2024.
The activity aimed to increase learner’s interest in reading and improve their level of reading comprehension and communication skills. All these encourage clearer expression, clarity of understanding, creative thinking, and imagination.
During the Post Reading Activity, the Grade III Learners were assessed on their reading ability and literacy level on the different levels, namely: letter level, syllable level, word level, phrase level, sentence level, paragraph level, story level, and comprehension.
The Functional Literacy Assessment Tool (FLAT) in Ilokano, English, and Filipino was used as the reading material.
The activity is in support with the Department of Education implementation of the catch-up Fridays in accordance with the National Reading Program, which is a vital component of the National Learning Recovery Program (NLRP). The initiative was started on January 12, 2024. During Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) Day.
It was participated by 26 Grade III Pupils of Balaleng Elementary School. The program implementors were assisted by 10 teaching staff. Mrs. Evelyn P. Pagaduan, Master Teacher welcomed the group from the Department of Languages and Humanities.
The program implementors were DLH faculty Jocelyn F. Virtudes, Emely R. Rapacon, and Maria Ines B. Pastor. It was organized by Dr. Esperanza Marites V. Marinas, under the guidance of DLH head Allen Magdaleno de Vera.
