Pre-practicum workshop prepares psych seniors

In a bid to prepare Psychology students for their practicum, a comprehensive workshop was held at the Tadena Hall on March 1, focusing on essential clinical psychology practices and writing psychological report, personality development, and professional skills. The event, organized by the BS Psychology Program, aimed to equip students with practical knowledge crucial for their success during the practicum period and beyond.

Mr. Mico Molina, the program head, emphasized the significance of the practicum experience as a steppingstone toward students’ future careers. He assured them of the University’s commitment to empowering them at every stage of their journey.

The workshop featured prominent speakers who delved into various aspects of psychology practice.

The first speaker, Ms. Maria Corazon G. De Guzman-Penera, Manpower Development & Research Consultant and licensed psychometrician, highlighted the importance of psychological report writing, describing it as the quintessence of a psychology professional. The emphasis was on mastering the intricate process of composing such reports, essential for effective clinical practice.

The second speaker, Ms. Gabrielle Chynna A. Vale, RPm, CHRA, registered psychometrician and instructor of Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy, focused on the continuous nature of personality development, stressing that it is a lifelong journey with no definite endpoint.

She urged students to invest time in both personal and personality development, emphasizing the importance of clarity, confidence, and interpersonal skills in their professional endeavors.

Throughout the seminar, attendees gained insights into proper work etiquette, including the importance of moral compass, effective communication, teamwork, and integrity, delivered by the third speaker, Dr. Remedios T. Navarro, Dean of CAS and Psychology faculty member. These skills are deemed essential for success not only during the practicum period but also in their future careers as psychology professionals.

Dr. Rolando B. Navarro, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, also addressed the students, emphasizing the importance of wisdom and integrity during their practical training. He underscored their role in upholding the University’s esteemed reputation and identity throughout their OJT experience.

The event concluded with an orientation on the objectives, requirements, and other important aspects of OJT by the practicum instructors and a sense of empowerment and enthusiasm among the students.

With the University’s support and guidance, they are well-equipped to embark on their journey towards becoming competent and compassionate psychology professionals.
