UNP enhances faculty skills through seminar-workshop

The University of Northern Philippines through the Instruction and Faculty Development Office (IFDO), the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA), and the Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) conducted a three-day capability-building seminar titled Cultivating Commitment in the Academe,” on February 26-28 at the University Hostel Function Hall.

The program aimed on enhancing the skills and competencies of non-education graduates and newly hired faculty members. It covered key aspects of teaching, including foundational principles and methods, course syllabus design, and effective assessment of learning.

After the program rationale presentation by Dr. Archie Martinez, continuing professional development head, Dr. Luzviminda Relon presented an overview of what it means to be a teacher, focusing on educators’ roles and responsibilities in shaping students’ learning experiences.

Aside from Dr. Relon, Dr. Jamaica Garcia, Dr. Mark Angelo C. Reotutar, and Dr. Shareen Navarro, also served as program speakers who discussed various topics including the journey of educators into the world of teaching, assessing learning outcomes, and enlightened the partcipants about the UNP Student Information and Accounting System (UNP-SIAS).

Further, participants also explored techniques for creating Tables of Specification (TOS) and test preparation, ensuring alignment with educational standards.

A notable feature of the seminar was its values re-orientation component, which emphasized ethical considerations and reinforced educators’ dedication to providing excellent learning experience for students.

This initiative reflects the university’s proactive efforts to continuously improve its educational standards, benefiting both its stakeholders and the broader community.
